EMPLOYMENT

That laid-back longhorn on "Steers & Beers" logo says it all. This is a down-home, Texas establishment where you can kick back and relax while chowing down on solid American (and Texan) fare to the background of good ol' country music. The interior is pure country. Black-and-white "cowhide" tablecloths adorn tables in the spacious river-level dining room, where three-dimensional mural art turns the walls into a panorama of life in the Old West. Real, weathered wood shutters on one wall open to reveal the painted likenesses of carousing saloon girls and gamblers in the "Yellow Rose Saloon," while on another wall, a genuine picket fence trims the front of a cozy farmhouse, whose scarecrow sports a fabric apron of red gingham. On the other side of the dining room, blue-and-yellow, neon-barred windows mark the jail area (which doubles as a dance floor). You'll find your eyes wandering the walls to see what unusual depiction of the Old West you'll discover next.

The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner, starting at 11 a.m., with the kitchen open 'til 10:30 p.m. weeknights and midnight on weekends. The bar is open 'til the wee hours. With a 70-inch TV (largest on the River Walk) and a street-level area offering video games and its own "Hayloft Bar" (karaoke Mon.-Thurs., 8 p.m. 'til midnight), you'll want to gallop on down to the best little Texas dining spot on the river -- Steers & Beers.
